Dan Lyons & The Tenants are releasing Shuttered Dreams on 16th September this year. In advance of the forthcoming album, the Margate-based band have unveiled, ‘The Price Is Right’, the new single to be taken from it.
Speaking about ‘The Price Is Right’, Dan Lyons says: “I wrote ‘The Price is Right’ during a very low ebb, feeling guilty about making bad decisions and generally wondering what this whole human existence malarkey even means at all. It’s one of those songs that just sort of ended up writing itself (I know it’s annoying when people say that, but it’s definitely a thing) and I tried to be as honest and open as I could be – didn’t want to hide anything in irony or too much metaphor.”
For all of the existential angst that lies at its heart, ‘The Price Is Right’ is a delightful slice of melodic pop featuring Dan Lyons’ distinctively delicate vocals and an explosive coda and all making for a great opening pronouncement for the band.
The single was recorded over lockdown at The Tom Thumb Theatre – a family-run arts venue in the centre of Cliftonville, Margate – during the session for Shuttered Dreams. The accompanying video, made by Dan Lyons, comprises footage he shot during a trip to the Hornby Visitor Centre in his home town and is complemented by numerous monochrome photographs he has collected over the years. These images were mostly taken over the past 13 years by friends and then uploaded to Facebook and the rest Lyons had taken himself using various incarnations of the iPhone.
