Future Islands have released their cover of Wham! classic ‘Last Christmas.’ It’s out now on 4AD.
The Baltimore synth-pop band released their most recent studio album, As Long As You Are, in 2020. Their cover of the seasonal favourite can be streamed below. Future Islands are currently on tour in Europe.
‘Last Christmas‘ was written by the late George Michael. It was originally released by Wham! in 1984, famously being kept off the top of the UK singles chart by Band Aid‘s ‘Do they Know It’s Christmas.’ For many years it held the record for being the biggest-selling single not to reach no.1, until it topped the charts in 2021. That set a new record for the longest time a record had taken to reach the top spot since its original release; that record was broken this year by Kate Bush‘s ‘Running Up That Hill.’
