NEWS: Whenyoung release ‘Unchained’ single ahead of ‘Paragon Songs’ album and tour

Whenyoung have just announced that their new album Paragon Songs will be released on 7th April 2023. The Irish duo whose work has been described as “thrilling, euphoric” and “immaculate pop” gives us a glimpse of the upcoming album, in their latest release, ‘Unchained’. Penned during writing sessions in the extremes of the west coast of Ireland and the east coast of England the album looks at how, ‘Every step is a new time in your existence and noting it down marks it, celebrates it and reveals you to yourself’, according to Aoife Power.

These lyrics represent who I am right now or who I’ve been the past year or two. My intention is to like myself and be kinder to myself. And so I can only present myself in the state that I am currently in which is healing not healed.” She said, “Unchained is, ‘written about a time when I was being made to feel like I was not enough as I am’, Power continued: “I felt cramped, stunted and in turn obsessed by my weaknesses. Leaving this situation allowed me to regain my self esteem and release the defensive layer I had used for protection.” Listen to the hypnotic introspective, yet triumphant ‘Unchained” track here:

The album was created in a cottage in County Clare and finessed in a flat on a street called Paragon on the East coast of England, hence the name. ‘Paragon Songs.” It begins in the pain of an old narrative arcs in the possibility of change and resolves in intention. Aoife Power and Andrew Flood, are known for their infectious indie-pop and recent releases, ‘A Little Piece Of Heaven’, and ‘The Laundress,’ have illustrated how they have evolved and developed an expansive soundscape. Latest single ‘Unchained’ reveals a saturated drum groove laying the foundation for the liberating, soaring vocal melodies and an explosive euphoric wall of sound.

Beginning as a band called Sisters in 2012/2013, they became Whenyoung in 2016, and with only two tracks out in the world, were invited by Shane McGowan of The Pogues to play at his 60th birthday party in Dublin, meeting Bono. Their debut album Reasons To Dream was released in May 2019, and they’ve performed for Mulberry, Sunday Brunch, recorded two live BBC Radio 1 sessions at the iconic Maida Vale Studios.

In celebration of the album, Whenyoung will hit the road in April 2023 across the UK and Ireland, with tickets on-sale now HERE.
