PREMIERE: Will Lawton & The Alchemists ‘Black Bricks’ Video

Black Bricks’ is the new single by Wiltshire-based ensemble Will Lawton & The Alchemists, due for release on 10th February 2023 via West Country label Supermarine Music.

With a circling piano motif and rich, folk scorched backdrops decorated with Lawton’s wistful vocals, ‘Black Bricks’ is taken from the band’s new EP, Alchemy, due on 17th March 2023.  Will Lawton is a prolific songwriter-pianist joined, for this release, by the Alchemists featuring Weasel Howlett on drums, Buddy Fonzarelli on bass, Neil Muttock (electric guitar) Amy Kaelyn (vocals and guitar) and Harki Popli (tabla).

Today, we are debuting the accompanying video for ‘Black Bricks’ , watch it below. A parody of the constant flood of 24 hour news, here’s what Will Lawton has to say about it:

The mainstream news that is stuffed down our throats if we choose to watch it can do your head in.  It can be nonsensical at times.  As can some of the rules and attitudes in society.  Black Bricks is a push-back against some of this insanity, with a nod to satirist such as the legendary Chris Morris and The Day Today.

The EP title Alchemy is a reference to the alchemical process of creativity with this EP being a fusing of Will’s masterful song-craft and the band’s dexterous flair for instrumental flourishes and lush, subtly evolving arrangements. Will’s profession as a music therapist means he has a high degree of self-awareness when it comes to the cathartic, healing power of creativity and Black Bricks channels the sense of frustration that comes in response to the madness and cruelty of people behaving at their worst

Alchemy EP was produced by Patrick Phillips at Play Pen Studios, Bristol and mastered by Pete Maher at Top Floor Productions.
