Los Angeles duo Magdalena Bay return with their new single ‘Death & Romance’, their first release on Mom+Pop Music.
The track opens with an instant, sugary sweet hit by way of a danceable piano melody. This then builds into a luminous soundscape of disco, psychedelia and bubblegum pop, laden with Mica’s serene vocals. It feels vibrant and immersive, offering a stirring glimpse of what’s to come from the band. ‘Death & Romance’ is written and produced by Magdalena Bay and mixed by Dave Friedmann (The Flaming Lips, Beach House, MGMT).
Commenting on the track, the duo said: “Imagine rain pouring, streetlights glowing. You sit at home and wait for your alien boyfriend to pick you up in his UFO… but this time, he’s not coming.”
Magdalena Bay have also announced a series of live dates, where they will play shows in North America and Europe. The Imaginal Mystery tour kicks off on the 3rd of September in San Francisco, with the month long North American run including dates in Vancouver, Chicago, New York and Nashville before concluding in Los Angeles on the 2nd of October. European dates begin on the 7th November in Reykjavik before visiting Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris. The duo will play in London on the 13th November and Manchester on the 15th November, with the tour concluding in Dublin on 16 November.
