Rather pleasingly what is momentarily a totally dreary indie pop jaunty number veers off of the rails into a wibbly wobbly mish-mash of The Futureheads, Stornoway and children’s tv show Jamie’s Magic Torch. The daffy cocktail doesn’t always hold together, edging dangerously close to none-more-cheesy gameshow interstitial music, but this five piece’s experimentalism is commendable and invigorating, even when the track becomes a Gloria Estefan tune around the cries of ‘What a feeling!’
B-side His Delicate Brain employs a lot of the same tricks, most effectively the triple deckered vocals and giddily bonkers keys of Sam Quilliam. Alas, the main thrust behind the verses is pretty simpering and would suit a support slot for Mika, but there are enough sharp left turns here to hold the interest.
