Today I give you Alpaca Sports a collective from Gothenburg, Sweden. The mastermind behind the outfit Andreas Jonsson emailed us out of the blue over the weekend which turned out to be rather kind of him as their bittersweet lilting boy/girl jangle pop suits the ‘sunny mood’ at the moment.Andreas says ‘Together with producer Kalle von Hall and local musicians from projects like Jens Lekman, The Fume and Windowkisser, I’ve recently finished the recordings of my debut single, Just for fun.
I’m not sure you can get tweer than the video for ‘Just for Fun’ that features a blonde Swedish girl holding a lamb, a couple feeding and holding the reins to two Alcapa’s interspersed with images of them striding across different bits of abandoned rocky beach and Swedish landscapes, constantly just out of reach of each other, but I rather love it’s wistful mood. Whilst it’s elegant jangle pop sound captures the effortless lovelorn of Camera Obsura prime time, the splendid refrain of ‘I used to kiss her just for fun’ melts to heartbreak quicker than a 99 on a sweltering day, while the ba ba ba backings of Amanda Åkerman take one back in time to R.E.M.‘s splendid ‘Near Wild Heaven‘ single. ‘Just for Fun’ is simply gorgeous and it was out on the 22nd of March!
