Track Of The Day #197 – Kate Nash – 3AM

We went along to see what Kate Nash was up to back in June, in a small and sweaty venue in Liverpool (read about it here). At that time, we were still somewhat lazily getting to grips with her new post Riot Grrl persona.  I personally came away an absolute convert to the cause of someone who is clearly not afraid to get back to basics. OK, I hear you say, that’s all old news, blah, blah… except that it’s not: Kate’s soon to release album number three and must be one of the ‘biggest’ artists to go down the PledgeMusic route. All the signed albums and hand written lyric sheets have been snapped up, but you can still grab yourself anything from a poster for a tenner to shelling out two grand to have Kate come round your house, bake a cake and sing you some songs. In the meantime, we’ve got this new track  ‘3AM’. Not quite as raucously jagged as ‘Death Proof’, but seriously  the more I listen to this girl, the more she puts me in mind of  Billy Bragg (and it ain’t just the accent) .

There’s a slew of tour dates – a couple in February, then a shed load in April, where Kate is playing refreshingly ‘intimate’ venues, which is where we came in. Scroll down for the full list
