Preaching From The Pews: Firewheelbombfire

Must admit to being a tad fond of this one which I’m perplexed and slightly anxious to say we’ve mislaid the press gubbins for. Firewheelbombfire is the alter ego of one Matt Strangis, a Cardiff based multi instrumentalist who from his sound bunker surrounded in all manner of home recording devices and with an impish sense of playfulness has cobbled together a collection of work entitled ’Square peg in a square hole’ which is due for release May time. ’Doggone’ from the album has been leaked in order to serve, as you will, notice of intent and a corker it is to revealing along the way a creative mind at work for over the course of its sub 6 minute duration this cutie slyly sheds its mercurial skin to emerge from a dewy haze presaged in the ghostly acid folk trapping of an as were ’Wicker Man‘-esque mystique to revel in an almost ceremonial like spiritualism coiled in subtle arabesque drift winds and dinked in a gloriously psychotropic snake winding madrigal that we here were immediately recalling to mind the simple kid’s ’The Road’ in a face off with the stranger son which and amid the maddening clangs is flavoured with the trace elements of Roy Budd and the hypnotic shimmer oft found on the early work of 4treck. Until we can nail a copy of the album for closer review prepare to be seduced then by ‘Doggone’……
