I’ve had my ears and eyes trained upon the talent that is Cardiff resident Sam Goudie aka Elephant and Soldier since the release of his wonderfully introspective ‘First Shots EP’ of a few years ago, that’s stately songwriting skill was laced with the influence of the likes of Eliott Smith, Bon Iver and Ryan Adams but it was Sam’s emotive tone and heartfelt words that really stood out among the ‘singer songwriter’ throng.
Now Sam is set to take things up a notch with a new EP entitled ‘The Hum’ which sees the light of day on the 24th of June.The lead track is the racing percussion, brass dappled, brave, life affirming beauty that is today’s TOTD ‘Fight Like Them’, seen even in its early stripped back form it represents Sam’s burgeoning talent as a songwriter. Whilst the final single version shows a grander production swell that shows why brass and strings aren’t just a bolt on(cough Beady Eye take note) but can become intrinsic to elevating a song to greater heights.The magnificent video which depicts Sam and a young lad ready to take on the world, so watch it below!
