Track of the Day #574: Ellen and the Escapades – The One and Only

artworks-000089802684-iirhf1-t500x500This is ‘The One and Only’ like you have never heard it before. The Nik Kershaw penned tune first crept into the public consciousness back in 1991 when that erstwhile and ephemeral British popster Chesney Hawkes took it all the way to the top of the hit parade. Now the song reappears in a vastly different form courtesy of the Leeds quintet Ellen and the Escapades.

Originally requested of them by the world’s largest independent music publisher Imagem, and subsequently featured on the soundtrack to the forthcoming horror-satire film L.A. Slasher, Ellen and the Escapades have this week unveiled the song as their brand new single.

The follow-up to their last single ‘Lost Cause’ (featured on these pages back in May of this year) Ellen and the Escapades have stripped ‘The One and Only’ of all its original gloss, reinventing the song as a beautiful, yearning ballad without losing any of its innate pop heart.

‘The One and Only’ was released on 1st September 2014 through Branch Out Records and can be purchased HERE
