Track Of The Day #749: Shiners – Pressure

ShinersThey’re described as being “like Franz Ferdinand” and it’s a comparison that’s hard to ignore.  The difference is that Shiners are a little less polished and with a brash twist.  As ‘Pressure’ shows off very well, Shiners also have rather more bite than Franz Ferdinand.  The vocals have a bit of a David Bowie (albeit a much younger David Bowie) quality – although whether that’s intentional or not is another matter.  Whatever the reason for it, it’s hard to deny that such a combination works incredibly well.

Furiously upbeat and loud, ‘Pressure’ is a great way to stave off the blues a Monday inevitably brings.  The guitars practically howl, the drums are only just heard over the din of shouty vocals and those guitars and whatever else they’ve thrown into the mix.  Either way, whatever they’ve done to it, ‘Pressure’ is pretty darn awesome.
