Track Of The Day #818: Sara Zinger – Bastard

Straight to the point title; straight to the point record.  Coming on 28th March, this is a thumping, four to the floor beast.  If you’re looking for a lights down track to get people to the dancefloor look no further.  For the more domesticated, it’s pretty much guaranteed to push you out your front door into the night with an aggressively lascivious strut.

An almost new beat-style, rubber band bassline grooves heavily along underneath a vocal by Sara Zinger that is not so much sang as flatly and threateningly stated.  And what a groove it is!  Listening whilst looking out at grey skies and rain one is transported to a dark and sweaty basement… in the mind, at least.  The hips wriggle which is pretty much the raison d’etre for a straight up beast like this.

Currently residing in Marseilles, if this is an indication of the club scene there at the moment, then there’s more reasons for a sortie to that part of southern France than buckets of bouillabaisse and a Zidane pilgrimage.  Frighteningly effective yet moody and an almost perfect record in the international language of deep funk and power.  ‘Bastard‘ it may be named but records don’t come much more legitimate than this.
