EXCLUSIVE: Dearthworms ‘Strike Low’ Video Premiere and Debut Album Announcement

Please welcome one of South Yorkshire’s finest, Sheffield’s very own musical answer to David Lynch. Their name is Dearthworms and just like the Twin Peaks director they trade in a similar currency of surrealism, strangeness, and freakish charm.

Band member Nick Potter emphasises the point when discussing Dearthworms’ debut album, Sapsucker which is due out on 26th July via local imprint and occasional gig promoter, Redundant Span Records.

“The record is about weird people and weird experiences. I’ve got a really vivid imagination and I like getting in the head of strange characters.”

And God Is In The TV is delighted to be able to bring you an exclusive first taste of the new album, complete with accompanying video, courtesy of Sapsucker’s lead single, ‘Strike Low.’

Filmed in Gleadless Valley, Sheffield and on their recent tour with fellow Sheffielders, Ye Woodbeast and taxidermy puppet company Pish and Chips, Dearthworms say of the video: “We felt like the best way to present our horniest song was with chaotic live footage and abstract violence. We cannot confirm who or what was under the spade.”

But whilst many of Dearthworms’ lyrical perspectives may well be fiercely unconventional, ‘Strike Low’ remains infernally contagious. It lurches out of the traps as if Mark E. Smith had suddenly been reincarnated as a rockabilly revivalist, before fellow vocalist Edith Rothwell and some highly-charged guitar riffs join in with the fun. Dearthworms are go!

Live:

11th May: Big Hands, Manchester w/ Dreamwave
19th May: Hatch, Sheffield
26th July: Shakespeare’s, Sheffield

27th July:  Jabberwocky, Sheffield
