Track Of The Day #820: Go Swim – Surrender

Go Swim look like they are going to be the next big thing from Ireland.

Now they’re getting airplay on National Irish radio – and having seen them live three times – I have always been impressed with how good their frontman Stevie Smith is.  They write, record and produce their own stuff, like a lot of new artists today, but they do so as a band rather than as a solo artist which is often the case.

The group sound like Foals mixed with lyrics by Placebo using jangly guitars and shimmering production.  On ‘Surrender’, Stevie sings “I will resurrect my voice/Resurrect my voice/Resurrect my voice/In your memory,” almost as a battle cry to himself to get on with life.

There’s just so much going on with this track it is hard to keep up with how good a pop-rock song it is; there’s some beat for dancing as well!  The band have a new website coming soon so keep an eye out here: http://www.wearegoswim.com

‘Surrender’ was released 5th March.
