Track Of The Day #825: The Veldt – Sanctified

In the early 90’s, The Veldt sounded several lightyears ahead of their time.  Their heady blend of soulful shoegaze, tied up with the odd strain of electronica and straight-up rock, had roots in the work of many but was comparable to none.  As such they were somewhat outcasts of the scene that celebrated itself, instead operating on the fringes as did the similarly perennially overlooked AR Kane and Disco Inferno.

25 years have passed and on ‘Sanctified’, the first track from upcoming EP The Shocking Fuzz of Your Electric Fur: The Drake Equation, The Veldt still sound a decade or so too early.  There are more points of comparison now; the combination of shoegaze and electronica can be found anywhere from M83 to TV On The Radio to Dalék, whilst the shoegaze/soul bridge has even been traversed more successfully by Texan trio Lift To Experience, but none do it quite like The Veldt.
