Track of the Day #847: Elle Watson – Losing Any Sleep

Elle Watson‘s ‘Losing Any Sleep’ sounds like it belongs on the soundtrack to some cool film the young folk are really into these days.  The intro is misleading – as is the first verse and chorus.  It creeps up on you, too.  It starts a little on the small side of things, and by the mid-section, it’s grown into something monstrous that carries it towards its close.

Think of Rihanna without the monotone whine and lack of soul, and you have something close to this.  Actually, Watson outsings Rihanna easily.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Rihanna as much as the next person (maybe more so), but she is a little samey.  In comparison, Elle Watson, on the basis of this track, has so much more to offer and within 3:47 minutes already shows that she has a wider range than Rihanna has had in too long.  I think she’s forgotten who she is.  In contrast, then, Elle Watson knows exactly who she is and shows it off with lustre and brilliance.  Quite frankly, ‘Losing Any Sleep’ is a fantastic tune that gets better each time you hear it.

‘Losing Any Sleep’ is available to buy from iTunes now.
