Track of the Day #851: SPQR – Plink

‘Plink’ is the second single for Liverpool’s three-piece alt-rock/art rock band SPQR and a first for label Elevant Music LTD.  It comes complete with a minimalist intro, whining guitars, and confident lead vocals tinged with melancholy.  According to the band, the song itself is about “the mental anguish of rejecting someone’s help for the sake of protecting them from becoming embroiled in your web, and the consequences when they delve deeper, becoming shocked and frightened.”  So no hearts, flowers and skipping in the sunshine, then?

Its inherent dark shadows are inviting despite the gloomy nature.  Those whining guitars, vocals, and the steady rhythm from the drums all come together to create a delicious sound that gets ever more delicious and tempting to devour the more you play it, burrowing deep inside your gut.

‘Plink’ is released 20th May on Elevant Music Limited
