PREMIERE: Tuath – Existence is Futile EP

Tuath release ‘Existence Is Futile’ as a Digital EP on 15th June 2016. Gauzy hazy rhythms and dreamy gazy soundscapes are decorated in a beguiling unusual boutique of elliptical sounds: evocative and dreamlike these pieces uncover the anxiety in our subconsciousness. Tuath means Tribe in Gaelic and they are from the Republic of Ireland. We have the first listen of their new EP ‘Existence Is Futile‘, here:

“Part of the rapidly growing psych scene, Tuath recently performed at Reverberation Psych Fest in Dublin, alongside other acclaimed Irish psychedelic bands such as TwinKranes, Woven Skull, Wild Rocket and the super-hyped Scottish band The Cosmic Dead. With Tuath gearing up to release their new EP, Existence Is Futile, the band continue to explore heavy psychedelia and saxophone-inflected space rock.

Two key themes that the EP explores are Tuath’s Irish heritage, and the social and cultural deprivation of the band’s home town of Donegal.

As front man Rob Mulhern says, the history of Ireland is “steeped in mysticism”. Talking about the linguistic history of Ireland, a history that has shaped Tuath’s creative drive, he says of his ancestors, “they had their own language in which their verbs conjugate depending on who was there in order to keep secrets, some of this phenomenon exists still today in the esoteric language of the Irish traveller community. The mysticism is mostly from the superstitions they had as a people and their language to this day is ambiguous and you can say a lot with very little”. By singing in both English and Irish Rob wants to make the music as widely accessible as possible, whilst still preserving tradition. As he says, “I honestly just don’t want the language of a very mystical people to die like a memory”.
