Track Of The Day #900: Bauer – Made The Change

We won’t be afraid of the dark…”  So entreat Bauer on this spunky but polished new single.  And rightly so, the dark should be embraced, as should ‘Made The Change‘.  It’s lusty stuff with a yearning, at times epic, quality.  The vocal almost sounds like Green Gartside from Scritti Politti in one of his less arch and more demonstrative moments.  Certainly, it has a vintage quality about it.  The music itself, however, is powerful synth and piano-driven with a pealing guitar riff; ripe and dance-like, that’s for sure.

Bauer hail from Manchester and with support slots for Turin Breaks and I AM Kloot behind them have funded a new album, Impossible is Nothing, entirely from fans cash using the Pledge Music system.  Canny move: band makes the record, punters feel they have equity.  Emotional equity as much as anything and that counts for a lot.

All of which counts for nothing unless the record is good at the end of the day.  Fortuitously, this is. Soaring stuff made to be sung outside on a warm summer evening with a gleeful grin.  Big sound, very hooky and very promising indeed.

‘Made The Change’ is released 19/8/16
