Performance artist, producer and singer Rachel Mason is set to release her new single ‘Tigers in the Dark’ on 9th September via Cleopatra Records. It follows on from her part in the rock opera feature film The Lives of Hamilton Fish last year, and is a glimpse into her upcoming song-cycle Das Ram, the first set of tracks that she’s written and performed with her long-time creative partner Jeff Hassay.
The song’s video, directed by Matthew Spiegelman, was recently included in an immersive theatrical performance at LTD Los Angeles, on the site of the former legendary venue known as Rodney Bingenheimer’s English Disco. A mainstay during the glam rock era, and the site where Iggy Pop infamously slashed his chest with a knife on stage. LTD recreated the iconic English Disco as an art installation. Mason has continually imagined worlds where animals, non-human entities and mythological creatures have all taken on a form through her body and voice, and that can be seen clearly in the video for ‘Tigers in the Dark.’ Hypnotic and mesmerising, Mason dances and sings while apparently taking on the spirit of a big cat.
