Track of the Day #903: Nawksh – Down the Rodent Hole

My music is a deep-dive into the most difficult, darkest parts of my psych,” explains Daniel Hyatt, better known as Nawksh.  “There I attempt to befriend the monsters that lurk, and convince them to follow me back out, knowing they’ll dissolve in the light of the Sun.” How does he do this?  With a flurry of ethnic beats and a twisted take on electronic psychedelia of course.

Hyatt is based in Karachi in Pakistan and is also a video game developer, and both of these elements are strangely significant to his sound.  On his latest track ‘Down the Rodent Hole,’ he reveals an exotic edge with a burst of whirring electronics that sound like crickets while creating the type of atmosphere that you might find in a particularly grim adventure game (think of the nightmarish world of Limbo).  Despite coming in at under two minutes, Nawksh manages to draw you into a world that’s part techno, part psychedelic, and just that little bit disturbing.  If he wanted to take you into the darkest recesses of his mind on ‘Down the Rodent Hole,’ he’s definitely achieved it.

Mythic Tales of Tomorrow II is released on 19th August via Guruguru Brain.
