Now in their seventh year, and set to release their third album at the tail end of September, London’s Skinny Lister have lost none of the rowdy, ramshackle abandon that endeared them to our hearts in the first place. ‘Wanted‘, the lead single from said long player, is the perfect demonstration of the feisty spirit that embodies the band and features a clever, animated lyric video which only serves to heighten the positive messages put forth by frontman Dan Heptinstall.
“In your streets/I still believe,” he growls defiantly, perhaps in the wake of the Brexit vote now that we’ve all had time to at least attempt come to terms with it. Granted, he name-checks New York and Cairo as well as London, so perhaps the political resonance was unintentional, but the sentiment remains. Skinny Lister want to paint the town red and they want you to join them, arms aloft in stubborn resistance against those who try to hold us back. World, don’t let them down.
