On 30th September, Norwegian singer and art-pop composer Jenny Hval will be releasing her new album Blood Bitch via Sacred Bones Records, the follow up to the critically acclaimed Apocalypse, girl. Hval had previously shared the audio of ‘Conceptual Romance,’ and it turned out to be one of Hval’s most sonically accessible tracks to date. The song was peppered with some lo-fi interjections and bursts of noise, but was also characterised by sweet singing and light piano.
Zia Anger, one of Hval’s long-term collaborators and frequent member of her touring band, has directed the unsettling clip that now accompanies ‘Conceptual Romance.’ It’s an oddly colourful and somewhat unnerving piece and in the climax a group of women lie naked with their bodies painted in an impressionistic manner. Anger described the idea behind the clip as “a conceptual ménage a trois between Jenny, myself, and cheap tricks. It is a literal burial of the effigies we have created in our video and performance collaborations over the past three years.” Watch below. Warning: slightly NSFW.
Hval is also heading out on a short tour of the UK in October, after appearing at End of the Road festival. Details below.
4th September – End of the Road Festival
17th October – Stereo, Glasgow
18th October – Soup Kitchen, Manchester
19th October – Oslo, London
