Track Of The Day #948: Attu – Staying Together

As I’ve probably said before, sometimes I like it when things don’t quite match up. This does sometimes upset the need I have for things to be Just So, but there are times when a little shake up is needed; a brief moment of madness, if you will.  Attu‘s new single ‘Staying Together’ is one of those times.

It’s like a blast of light at a time when everything seems glum, grey, and hopeless.  The weather is wet, wild, and mostly unpredictable, and now that Donald Trump looks set to become the next President of the United States of America the entire world is looking as though at any moment everything is going to fall to pieces; things look bleak.  If ever there was a time for something to shake away some of those feelings, it’s now.

Attu is London-based artist Stefan Antoinette and his band (Chike Newman – bass, keys, samples and backing vocals/Joel Mayes – guitar, bass and backing vocals/Millie Wilson – keys, samples, and backing vocals/Sean Poole – drums.)

Of the song, Antoinette explains it’s about “Feeling you’re trying to make things work but you keep getting in your own way.  Whether that’s friends or lovers.  Sometimes it’s not the people around you having a difference of opinion, it’s you being in your own head too much.”  So even the track is at odds with itself – it just doesn’t fit the awkwardness that inspired the song in the first place.

‘Staying Together’ is a breath of fresh air with its bright, jolly, and upbeat melodies.  It needs to be danced to, and who doesn’t need a dance every now again?  Add some fun to your day with this one from Attu; we all deserve it right now.

‘Staying Together’s is released 9th December, Check out Attu on Facebook
