Track Of The Day #962: Yours – Plain View

Yours and an intriguing (and hard to Google!) electronic duo hailing from London. Their manifesto is to create ‘personal electronic music with depth’ and on ‘Plain View’, they have achieved their aim with room to spare.

Opening with dramatic synthesised strings that could have come via mid-’90s Goldie, ‘Plain View’ doesn’t hurry itself in getting started and builds wonderfully to become a claustrophobic but ultimately uplifting track which could have afforded to stick around for longer than its 4-minute 13-second duration. There is a sense of unfinished business as it drifts away forlornly, but also a real sense that the debut album, when it arrives (no date yet) could just be a thing of wonder.

‘Plain View’ was issued as a single via Tiny Hits on 11th November. The duo, Joe Edwards and James Melaugh, produced and mixed the track themselves. Yours play London’s The Miller venue on 7th February 2017, following on from a pair of shows they recently played in the capital at Open Channel and The Waiting Room.
