Thick Syrup released their debut LP on Friday on Gringo Records (Hookworms, Sauna Youth, That Fucking Tank, Part Chimp). Featuring Gemma from The Wharves on vocals, plus musicians best known for playing in punk bands in Nottingham and York, Thick Syrup was birthed from a mutual love of 60s garage, 70s funk and early hard rock
Today we have the first airing of thier new video for ‘Lady Anne Arise’, a slower more serreptitious moment from the Thick Syrup arsenal. Spiralling from introspective 70s flecked waltz into a crashing crescendos. Watch it below:
Gemma: “A rare slowie for Thick Syrup. This one is really special to me as the vocal line had been in existence since about 2010 and I’d never really managed to find the right song to write around it. When the band wrote this slow number it was really weird that this old vocal line seemed to fit on top, despite the parts being written entirely separately. Serendipitous perhaps. The video was really fun to make and filmed by fellow musician Robert Sotelo in Lisbon in January. The backdrop of the out-of-season, deserted, Castelo de Sao Jorge lit by the mid-morning winter sun was perfect. The band shots were filmed at the slightly less glamorous but equally mystical setting of our studio in Armley, Leeds.”
Live:
Friday 16th March – Edinburgh – Henry’s Cellar Bar
Saturday 17 March – Nottingham – JT Soar
