The new offering from Hot Sauce Pony is a heavyweight affair – that much becomes apparent the very moment the song sprawls into action with a near demonic power. So it makes absolute sense that director Chris Purdie should opt for a similarly oppressive approach when it came to applying his distinctive black and white cinematography to the South London four piece’s tale of domestic meltdown.
While the back and forth of the male/female vocal jousting is voiced in desperate sounding tones by two blindfolded, tied up hostages, the band watch on impassively, enacting their own passive-aggressive tea party of polite cruelty. We’d like to tell you that no cakes were harmed in the making of this promo, but alas we simply can’t.
‘What You Don’t Know’ is taken from the band’s imminent first album, also called Hot Sauce Pony, scheduled for release on the Brixton Hillbilly label in early 2019, The band also feature alongside the likes of Black Midi, Alessi’s Ark, Bad Parents and others on It’s Brixmaaaaas, a collection of Christmas songs to raise cash for Brixton Soup Kitchen, out on December 7th also on Brixton Hillbilly.
