Introducing: MAVICA

Introducing: MAVICA

MAVICA is a London-Based songstress with a gorgeous, stripped-back sound that tugs at the heartstrings.  Her new track ‘No It’s Not’ is a stunning folk-inspired spiritual journey with clever use of auto-tuned vocals that add a unique quality to the track.  I asked her a few questions about her new release, here’s what she had to say:

Hi, how are you today?

Hey, I am good despite the weird situation, but trying to be productive and get the most out of all this spare time.

Tell me about your new song, ‘No It’s Not‘.

No It’s Not‘ is the continuation of Ada Road, as a journey.  It expresses a moment of transition in which I am growing as a musician moving to a different sound while realising that sometimes things are
different than the way they seem.

What was the first song you ever wrote?

It was probably a really bad Spanish song with no music because I still didn’t know how to play the guitar or piano.

What was it like?

It was a way of discovering my inner creative world without even knowing!  It was really naive as well.

What’s your local music scene like?

It is surprisingly good for being from a small city.

How would you describe your music in five words?

Honest, intimate, (probably still) naive, relaxing and soft.

Which artists do you admire?

Many. Joni Mitchell, Antonio Vega, FKA Twiggs, PBSR, Justin Vernon, Phoebe Bridgers, Rey Lobo…

What would be your dream collaboration?

Probably Justin Vernon or The Beatles if we were back a couple of years…

What’s the best band you have played with so far?

Alice Phoebe Lou and Jonathan Wilson.

Who/What are you listening to right now?

Quincha by Montoya, a Colombian artist that has been my last discovery and this song just blew my mind.

Thanks for your time!

Thank you.
