Liars have announced they will reissue their catalogue with a series of limited edition releases pressed only on recycled vinyl. The first release will be available from July 22nd and will be the band’s debut from 2001 They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top.
One of the most popular tracks from the album was ‘Mr Your On Fire Mr’- a ferocious dance-punk anthem later covered by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs – gets a lyric video with new visuals by Jonny Campolo of P.E. Watch it below.
Angus Andrew explained more about the vinyl series, “We all feel the weight of the waste we’re creating so any occasion to lessen that load is welcome, but I also relish the opportunity to utilise the off cuts from other people’s vinyl, having that melted down and reappropriated just makes so much sense to me and the process of creation. It feel like the sweat and tears from every other artists work is blended into ours – imbuing the recycled vinyl with supernatural integrity and power.”
The band were a four piece when the critically acclaimed debut was released, a stalwart from the early noughties Brooklyn scene. Now however, Liars is effectively a solo project for Andrew, with different guests on each record. Last year Liars released their tenth studio album The Apple Drop – twenty years after the debut – which saw Andrew work with avant-garde jazz drummer Laurence Pike, multi-instrumentalist Cameron Deyell and lyricist Mary Pearson Andrew.
The campaign of recycled vinyl reissues continues later in the year with the follow up album They Were Wrong, So We Drowned.
