Pale Waves, are back with anthemic alt rock single ‘Jealousy’, giving us a taste of what’s to come in their upcoming album, Unwanted which is out on 12th August via Dirty Hit. The quartet, continue a streak of worldwide radio premieres with BBC Radio 1 naming ‘Jealousy’ as their Hottest Record. You can hear the raw honesty of Avril Lavigne and Alanis Morrissette in the lyrics, backed by biting , pentatonic riffs reminiscent of The Subways, while the video reflects the band’s chic approach to alt rock.
Lead singer, Heather Baron-Gracie, cited Alanis as an influence saying, “She’s just unapologetic, and I wanted to be like that.” This refreshing, raw, honest attitude is reflected in their latest release ‘Jealousy’ . Speaking of the single, she said, “I love a bit of jealousy, not too much, but just enough….I want jealousy in a relationship because it shows me the person only has eyes for me and me only”
This thread is continued through upcoming album Unwanted. Baron-Gracie said:
“The album dives into feelings that I felt not only needed to be written but I felt like our fans want to hear. Almost everyone has felt like they don’t belong, or has been made to feel like they’re not good enough. That’s a consistent theme that I’m seeing from our fans – that their family doesn’t approve of them, or their friends have disowned them because they’ve come out. So Unwanted had to be honest, provocative and loud. Not only thematically, but in the music as well.”
Unwanted is a record that reaches out into the passionate community of misfits and LGBTQI fans around the band, tapping into darker emotions than ever before while also striking a fresh tone of defiance. This is a powerful follow up to previous albums ‘My Mind Makes Noises’ and ‘Who am I?” and was recorded in LA with producer Zakk Cervini who has worked with alt- rock royalty including Blink-182, Halsey and Machine Gun Kelly.
