NEWS: Shakespears Sister announce 30th anniversary edition of second album ‘Hormonally Yours’

London Records have announced a special edition release of Shakespears Sister’s Hormonolly Yours across multiple formats, released on September 30th.

The anniversary CD format will include a DVD featuring all videos from the album shot by legendary producer Sophie Muller plus live recordings of album tracks from the band’s 2019 tour, which saw Siobhan Fahey and Marcella Detroit reunited for the first time in over 25 years.  In addition previously unseen footage shot during the making of the album is included.

Meanwhile the vinyl will be available in two limited edition formats – standard white vinyl and a deluxe version in spattered vinyl.  A special sequinned bag edition acts as a nod to the sequinned catsuits that were Shakespears Sister’s signature look around the time of the album’s release.

The band had been named after The Smiths‘ 1985 single, dropping the ‘e’ on the end of ‘Shakespeare.’ Their second album was originally conceived as an alternative soundtrack to the 3-D sci-fi B-movie, 1953’s Cat-Women Of The Moon. Although the soundtrack idea was shelved, ‘Hormonally Yours’ stuck to the space age concept. As Marcella Detroit explains, the women in the film were their inspiration: “They were bold, they were daring, unapologetic about who they were.”

The album originally reached no.3 in the UK album charts, and went double platinum. The single ‘Stay‘ topped the charts for eight weeks, and also provided several other hit singles, including ‘I Don’t Care‘ and ‘Hello (Turn Your Radio On).’  Shakespears Sister reunited in 2019 releasing a brand-new EP, Ride Again, which featured the single ‘When She Finds You, ‘ a collaboration with Richard Hawley.
