NEWS: Bibi Club to play at The Great Escape Festival and release ‘Le Soleil et la Mer’ album

Montreal duo, Bibi Club, bring their lush slacker-pop to the UK for a run of live dates including three shows at the Great Escape Festival from 11th to 13th May. During the Festival, on 12th May, they will release their long-awaited debut album, ‘Le Soleil et la Mer.’ Like a faraway song floating through an open window, the band’s first full-length LP is sun-kissed and wave-washed: arriving just on time for summer as a shimmering, chic and long-overdue party.

With a sound unique to the Montreal scene, the pair borrow inspiration from ‘70s post-punk New York bands like Arthur RussellTalking Heads and Suicide, the West Coast spiritual jazz of Alice Coltrane and the current experimental pop scene in England ( including Tirzah and Dean Blunt). The influence of radical movements on the pair is undeniable, but at their core Bibi Club convey a cosy sense of cheerfulness- something they describe as “living-room party music.”

Building on the foundations they’d each laid as members of various other musical projects, singer-keyboardist Adèle Trottier-Rivard and guitarist Nicolas Basque formed Bibi Club in 2016, embracing minimalism from the start, focusing on raw musical power rather than over-embellishing their sound.

The duo’s 2019 debut EP ‘Bibi Club’ showcased radical sonic exploration. Across four bold tracks, the band immediately established a musical language that was rooted in authenticity and individuality. Bibi Club have been attempting to push back space-time boundaries in their music ever since.

Just in time for the brighter days of summer, the band are now set to unveil their glimmering debut album, ‘Le Soleil et la Mer.’

Alongside the release, the band will be heading to the UK for a series of live shows this May. Fresh off the back of a performance at the infamous SXSW in Texas, the band have just wowed audiences at FOCUS Wales and will be playing three shows at the The Great Escape in Brighton this Spring.
