Wunderhorse frontman and principal songwriter Jacob Slater has announced his debut solo album Pinky, I Love You, featuring the lead track ‘Kissin’ Booth’. The album is set for release on 4 August via Communion Records and ‘Kissin Booth’ will be the only release ahead of the album. The track is accompanied by a visualiser shot by Gabe Drechsler around Jacob’s home in Newquay. It showcases the same songwriting and spirit as Wunderhorse but now with a stripped back setting that sees Slater perform solo with acoustic guitar, singing of betrayal and deceit:
“Where’s the colour in your face? Something you’d like to tell me darling
Well there’s no need to explain, cos I know all about the secret you’ve been hiding, is it true?
Well I hope you had a good time, while I waited in the hotel room
And I wonder was his mouth just like mine.
Yeah I saw the pictures,in the kissin’ booth“
Recorded at Rockfield and Hoxa Studios alongside the recording of the Wunderhorse album Cub, Pinky, I Love You is a collection of songs that capture Slater’s timeless songwriting through minimalist production. Eight months after the release of Cub, Wunderhorse have cemented their line-up as a four piece (with the addition of Jamie Staples, Harry Fowler and Pete Woodin). Thus Slater felt it was right for these solo tracks to be released under his own name. As he explains:
“Pinky, I Love You is a collection of songs that come from the same period as Cub. They didn’t make sense with a band so I recorded them on my own”.
Wunderhorse have had a phenomenal rise over the last 18 months. As well as the release of Cub they have supported Sam Fender, PIXIES, Fontaines DC and Foals and sold out their own headline tour including London’s Electric Ballroom. In addition the four-piece have seen playlisting from BBC Radio 1.There is a packed festival summer to come including slots at Glastonbury, Victorious, Latitude plus another UK tour this year.
