New York’s Water From Your Eyes ended 2023 spectacularly, with end-of-year list accolades for their Matador Records debut, Everyone’s Crushed. Now, kicking 2024 off with another single from that album, ‘Out There’ , Water From Your Eyes teams up with directors Sophia Feuer and Tyler Macri on a trademark oddball concept video to complement the immersive, yet claustrophobic mood of the track.
Feuer and Macri wanted to bring out the intense, pent-up energy and heavy slog of the verse which explodes on ‘Out There’‘s chorus, so they used the well-worn surroundings of a small family-owned pet store in Queens to provide a springboard for the unexpected. The backdrop, a decaying world of 20th century animal consumerism, resonates with the song’s emotional shifts and longing for companionship. (Note: no animals were harmed in the making of this video – except maybe a plastic fish).
Water From Your Eyes join Squid on a full US tour next month, adding two more members to the lineup – guitarist Al Nardo and drummer Bailey Wollowitz of Sloppy Jane.
