NEWS: Enola Gay release new single ‘Cold’

Enola Gay have released their new single ‘Cold’. It follows ‘Terra Firma’ and continues a shift in sound after the earlier bombastic soundscapes. ‘Cold’ is the first new music since last year’s EP Casement. The track is contemplative and introspective, a shoegaze ballad reflecting on resilience through grief after the passing of a closer friend’s younger sister. Dominated by the instrumentation, the Belfast quartet further demonstrate they are not just noisemakers but also have the ability to bring depth and texture to their sound. The percussive element towards the end is crisp, gliding into the guitars which create a soaring emotion.

‘Cold’ is produced by Enola Gay collaborator Neil Kerr, Mount Palomar and the band expand on the origins of the new single:
‘’Cold’’ was one of the first tracks we ever wrote, written from a place of admiration for our close friend and her family. We vividly remember meeting her and the infectious energy she brought to our friend group so to discover that she had a sister, who was terminally ill, really took us back. As she and her family battled one of the most tragic experiences imaginable, their love remained fortified and their heads grounded.  Witnessing this set our adolescent self-destructive behaviour into perspective. We wrote something we hope echoes an acceptance that you can be bruised without being broken. We all have our problems but we can’t become consumed by them, be grateful for what you have.

For some time, we were all dealing with personal issues behind the scenes but that is exactly why ‘Cold’ was the most appropriate track for us to record next. It reminded us that our issues weren’t as big as they seemed and because we stuck together, we surpassed them. ‘Cold ‘is not just a song of incomparable loss; it is about not being alone through it.”

The new release succeeds Enola Gay’s debut TV performance on Jehnny Beth’s Echoes on ARTE and their American tour, where they shared the stage with the likes of Death Grips and Queens of the Stone Age.
