Electronic artist (Ariel Pink / Panda Bear cohort) JOHN MAUS releases his forthcoming new album ‘We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves’ on the 4th July on Upset The Rhythm. If you can’t wait that long, here’s a treat for you; the brand new music video for pivotal album track ‘Head For The Country’ and a FREE MP3. Watch the video below grab the MP3 for nowt here: http://snd.sc/izdTK6

Directed by the mastermind behind the impressive Multinauts sci-fi saga Jennifer Juniper Stratford (Telefantasy Studios), the video sees John heading out into snowy Minnesotan edgelands, driving to a mysterious radar base and communicating with space via flashing auras and spinning satellites. ‘Head For The Country’ was one of the last songs to make the album and its elegiac disco bounce leaves a lasting impression. The song meditates on human beings seeking salvation in the great outdoors, and its central call of ‘Somewhere there’s a crime being committed’ seeps deep into your conscience.

Whilst working towards his PhD in Political Science in his birthplace of Austin, Minnesota, John’s new album stands out as one of the best we’ve heard all year. Each track could be a single, combining the confrontation of punk, 80s movie soundtrack style, the insistent pulse of Moroder, and the spirituality of Medieval or Baroque music. His live shows are something to be witnessed; volatile balls of energy, each performance is a shirt-pulling, air-punching call to arms.
