Brooklyn duo Telepathe oversee Carbon Logic launch & AZitiZ remix

telepatheazitizInteractive music network Carbon Logic has invited acclaimed Brooklyn duo Telepathe to oversee its latest release, culled from the pages of new music website Carbonlogic.co.uk www.carbonlogic.co.uk

Telepathe have chosen the 12 winning entries for the forthcoming digital compilation. As well as picking the winning track for the ‘Carbon Logic: Cycle 10’ 12-inch vinyl release, they’ve also remixed the winning track, stream below. An additional remix has come from UK electronic music-maker Alphabets Heaven, while the fourth track on the vinyl EP is hard-hitting, diffuse hip-hop cut ‘Kids Killing Kids’ by Damgroove.

The winning track has come from experimental hip-hop artist AZitiZ from New Orleans. A dubwise yearning backed by accordion and pared-down beats produced by Philadelphia based producer St. Paul, ‘What Is Love’ is AZitiZ at the peak of her soulful powers. Her artist name, derived from the Sanskrit meaning ‘unadulterated truth’, fits an artist who has been compared to the conscious hip-hop sounds of Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu. She initially started out as a percussionist before falling in love with hip-hop. “Life inspires me, the ups, the downs, smiles and frowns,” says AZitiZ. “Mother Earth inspires me; the stars and the unknown intrigue me. I am influenced by people who follow the heart and, especially, the soul.” AZitiZ releases her debut album ‘The City Of Love’ on September 5th also. Telepathe (pronounced ‘telepathy’) have fuzzed out AZitiZ’s vocal and layered it over a droning backing and hazy synths that recall the experimental work of Animal Collective. Melissa Livaudais and Busy Ganges avant-pop has been making (chill)waves in the international scene since their debut album ‘Dance Mother’ was released in 2009 with TV On The Radio’s David Sitek at the controls. The Alphabets Heaven remix meanwhile, transports AZitiZ’s vocal into glistening melodic glitchtronica.

All four tracks will be out on special 12-inch vinyl, with artwork designed by artist Harriet Bridgwater. The 12-inch will come with a download code that will enable buyers to download the rest of the top tracks chosen by Telepathe in this cycle, including varied work by I.A.M.M.E, Neoptropic, Novoray, [moos], Eggchan & Coopz, Abameida11, Dokkebi Q, Subtitle and Shadowbox.

Carbon Logic is an interactive music discovery website that allows musicians to promote new music and receive feedback on their productions. Artists upload new music, and the online Carbon Logic community listens, scores and comments. Previous Carbon Logic artists include Zilla, aka King Cannibal, now signed to top label Ninja Tune, and York-based beatsmaker Grinny Grandad, now signed to Finger Lickin’ Management.

“From the beginning, we wanted to put the site into the hands of grass roots music makers and let artists lead the way,” says Pete Saville, Carbon Logic co-founder. “I guess we’re a cross between a label, a publisher and an artist collective. We have a loyal, busy community that helps run it, about 70% of whom are musicians.”

Melissa & Busy (in their own words)……… “We’re not into this for any other reason than surpassing what we know and what the audience expects. Otherwise, why bother making music at all ?” “We compulsively download and listen to music from all over the place and music from all different decades…everyday is a new day in our music minds. We’re currently planning & working on a new record…We’ve been djing loads… taking and making music. It never ends and it’s all we know.” “Carbon Logic always posts the illest, newest, and nicest joints.”
