Villagers have revealed the new video for ‘Cecelia & Her Selfhood’, watch it below. A long-standing live favourite at Villagers’ live shows, ‘Cecelia’ has finally been committed to tape. Indeed, more than a simple music video, it slowly took the shape of a short film by animator extraordinaire, Adrien Merigeau. (www.adrienmerigeau.com). Adrien and Conor began the filmmaking process by discussing the song in all of its aspects. Then Adrien let loose. The results, we hope you’ll agree, are spellbinding. Here is a concise synopsis, although nothing explains the film better than the film itself. The film charts the development of a young man as he navigates his way through an impressionistic landscape in search of an elusive monster which is intent on destroying his childhood home. Lost and confused for the most part, he nonetheless uncovers the beast; a creature whose origins are both terrifying and liberating. Cecelia & Her Selfhood coincides with the end of what has been an epic trip for Villagers.
The past 18 months has seen Conor J. O’Brien and his band tour the world and the debut album Becoming a Jackal get nominated for both the Mercury Music Prize and a MOJO Honour. Conor was also awarded a prestigious Ivor Novello for ‘Best Song Musically and Lyrically’ for Becoming a Jackal . In celebration we are now offering a free download of the track Cecelia & Her Selfhood via Villagers’ official website www.wearevillagers.com
