Django Django – ‘Waveforms’ (Because Music)

Sin

Tripping the electro-psych fandango, East London based (yep, another band from the Shoreditch, Hoxton, Dalston triangle) “art-rock” clubers, Django Django, leave the comfort of their bedroom studio and unveil their latest infectious single ‘Waveforms’ upon thr braying hoardes:  a criterion, and precursor to next years debut LP.

Ploughing a similar furrow to thier tour compatriots, Metronomy, and boarding the same flight of fancy as the Friendly Fires; Django Django also dip into  poly-rhythms of Afro-beat: cooking up a hippie sentimental diaphanous, cowbell tooting, polygenesis dance hit.  Just as the opening warbling waves and bright electro dynamics begin the melody magically transforms; the vocals heading back in time towards the summer of 1968 in San Francisco with  lyrics that peddle a free-spirited ride through a drug-induced and musical heavy metaphor soaked journey in sound: “Waveforms reach through my mind and take me back there tonight/The reverb and me signal to me it’s never been far from sight”.

Two more versions of the track appear, with the obligatory radio edit.  The Wild Geese remix totally re-arranges, and, goes to work on the original; weaving it into a Felix da Housecat and Farley Jackmaster Funk demonic 1988 funky-house epic: a mixed-up exploratory dose of fun. The Drumforms mix adds even more languid effects and Techno-Trance grooves but maintains a strong 80s lilt.

Django Django (they liked the name so much they doubled it up!) are off to a promising start with their Hot Chip meets The Association techtonic fever. Looking forward to that 2012, pencilled-in, debut LP.
