Bleech – Mondays (Billie Records)

Sometimes I wonder whether people realise what year it is. ‘Mondays’, from cute London trio Bleech screams 90s indie-pop is good but it does sound rather dated. ‘Mondays’ opens with the standard drum solo and then the whine of a guitar (also standard). It’s loud (or at least, it’s trying to be loud) and the vocals… well. Said vocals lack vibrato, unfortunately leaving them a bit flat. They’re also a little too similar to Louise Wener (she of Sleeper fame) again reinforcing the 90s indie-pop likeness.

“Happy ‘cause it’s Monday”
goes the chorus. Are Bleech going for irony or are they actually one of the seeming minority that really does like Mondays? It’s hard to tell. Overall, it’s not a bad effort but the 90s was years ago. Catch up, please.
