Track Of The Day #315: Mazzy Star – California

This feels like big news. Hell, it IS big news. After getting the original band back together in the last two years or so, Mazzy Star have announced their first new album since 1996. Yes, you read that right, their first in seventeen years.
Of course, there has been solo Hope Sandoval stuff in the meantime, a Mazzy Star single, even live appearances, but an album was almost too much to hope for.  Entitled ‘Seasons Of Your Day’, the LP will also include appearances by long time collaborator Bert Jansch, who died in 2011, and My Bloody Valentine drummer Colm Ó Cíosóig, alongside Dave Roback and Hope herself.

Lead single ‘California’ is quiet but insistent, insinuating its way under your skin. It is a very good portent, a veritable star in the east.
