I’ve never subscribed to the notion that Pete Doherty merits any of the tags awarded him, such as ‘cool’, ‘talent’ or ‘genius’ and The Libertines were overrated way beyond their abilities. There was little that he or his counterpart did after the demise of that band, that has been truly credible, yet I found myself adhering to the second Babyshambles album, ‘Shotter’s Nation’. Six long and painful years later, the man and the band are back with the follow-up, ‘Sequel To The Prequel’ and, you know what, it’s another decent record. Doherty’s vocals wither and whine and end up in Shane McGowan territory a few times, even Johnny Rotten. That said, there are some good tunes on it and one of them sits here for your edification.
