Track of The Day #577: Select All Delete Save As – Archetypal Woman

A bizarre surf punk pop diamond in the rough from Jersey’s Select All Delete Save As today. “Archetypal Woman” is an ironic Carl Jung influenced ‘archetypal’ love story set in the States, that’s blunted strums chop feverishly before exploding into full on sun scorched, guitar solos and athemic mode in the chorus. It’s a car speeding out of control into some kind of no man’s land between the twitchy post pop of The Only Ones and the tuneful American landscapes of The Replacements.

Singer Antony Walker’s cracked croon veers from urgent repression to off the wall early Birthday Party croak. “’I love everything about America’ reveals Walker, ‘Archetypal Woman totally celebrates the whole culture in the extreme, I mean I love the desert, the freedom the heat and barstool barmaids. I love it all”.

“Archetypal Woman” is the second single to be taken from Select All Delete Save As’ critically acclaimed sophomore album ‘Ultra Cultura’ (out now on SADSA Records).

The band started when duo Antony Walker and Terry Emm met at University and started recording experimental rock music in their halls. A series of EPs were produced and distributed about the campus, becoming legendary for their spontaneity and odd subject matter. As a culmination of these recordings and their time at University the band released their almost self-titled debut album ‘Selectalldeletesaveas’ in 2011.
