Accuse us of being ironic or tongue-in-cheek by featuring an artist going by the name Oktoba (real name Chris Athorne) in November if you must, but it’s a brilliant track, so we care not! Brighton-based singer-songwriter Oktoba offers this warming, cheery and upbeat pop-folk tune ‘Smoke Signals’ – a perfect blend of James Taylor and Colbie Callait.
With his debut album already out – released 29th October – this, the title track from the aforementioned album, is a brilliant showcase of exactly what it is that Oktoba does best. ‘Smoke Signals’ evokes a time way back when it wasn’t grey and drizzly outside. Perhaps cruel given the season, but the great thing about ‘Smoke Signals’ is that you can enjoy it anytime, anywhere – the effect will be the same.
