‘Limitless’ sounds like a vulnerable sigh in the ear as the sun rises, evocative, restless, and utterly beguiling. French artist Alma Elste‘s broken, reverb-drenched vocal, emotes over this magnificently minimal undulating almost tropical pop track, inhabiting a space between early Lana Del Rey and London Grammar, but in turn, sounding utterly compelling and original. Each reverb-dunked note sounds, hurt, hollowed out and opens a window on the world of possibilities and pain brought about by parting with someone you love…
“‘Limitless’ is a track I produced on my own, unlike ‘Heart Melter’,” she explains. “The chorus came to me at night, during last summer, in Rome. I was listening to ‘Heroes’ by Bowie the day before and suddenly I think my brain completely transformed. I woke up and recorded the chorus on my iPhone so that I wouldn’t lose it. It’s about the terror of leaving behind the love of a lifetime.”
“Alma Elste was raised in Paris on the dual citizenship of classic French arts and hyperreal, American-inspired sounds and visuals. Her debut track ‘Heart Melter’ – was inspired by the nostalgic allure of video games, baseball and turbulent teenage relationships she experienced after moving to New York and later studying Harmony at the prestigious Berklee College of Music.”
