NEWS: TUSK Festival announces first wave of acts

Location: Sage Gateshead, Tyne & Wear
Dates: 14th – 16th October 2016

Over the past six years TUSK Festival, a celebration of international genre-defying and experimental music, has become a big part of the festival calendar in the NE. This year the event has a new home in the Sage Gateshead, and once again promises a thoroughly eclectic lineup alongside its extensive programme of films, exhibitions, talks, workshops and installations.

Japanese chamber-pop artist Eiko Ishibashi is one of the first acts to be announced.  Known for her frequent collaborations with Jim O’Rourke, Ishibashi is a star on both the noise and alt-pop scenes of Tokyo and recently worked with fellow Japanese noise artist Merzbow.  She’s joined by Los Angeles-based Silent Servant.  Under the Silent Servant name, Juan Mendez peddles techno that’s atmospheric and laden with ominous undertones.

Favourite of both David Lynch and Brian Eno, Fovea Hex, led by cult Irish folk singer Clodagh Symonds, will also be bringing their ambient sounds to the festival.  At the other end of the spectrum, Leeds noise-rock group Guttersnipe are also on the bill, while legend of the American underground Eddy Detroit brings his infectious blend of fusion rock to the Sage.  There’s also a dose of Latin American psychedelia in the form of Los Siquicos Litoraleños.

More acts and events are set to be announced in the coming weeks.  Tickets for TUSK go on sale on 22nd April and can be bought here.
