NEWS: TUSK Festival adds new acts to line-up

Dates: 14th-16th October 2016
Location: Sage Gateshead

Building on its diverse lineup of acts, which already includes Eiko Ishibashi, Fovea Hex, and Silent Servant, TUSK are adding eight new globetrotting acts to its bill for October, cementing its claim to be a truly international festival for the avant-garde.  The latest acts are headed up by Javanese duo Senyawa, who use the folk traditions of their native Indonesia – including throat singing and instruments built from farming tools – to create a compelling approach to songwriting.  Hen Ogledd, which combines the powers of alt-folk maestro Richard Dawson, harp experimentalist Rhodri Davies and electronic producer Dawn Bothwell, have also been added to the bill.

The cardboard cut-out world of Americans Rubber O Cement are also set to play, alongside Mexico’s Skull Mask, who channels steel-strung acoustic guitar and found sounds into stream-of-consciousness compositions.  Mark Gergis’ project Porest is providing cut and paste, often witty sampling, German techno institution Wolfgang Voigt will be delivering the latest in his Ruckverzauberung series, and Ashtray Navigations will be playing electro-psych tunes from across their 20-year career.  Rounding off the new announcements is Soldier Garage, the solo project of Tokyo-based Migiwa Shimizu, who combines his own delicate voice with bursting electric guitar.

Many more acts for this year’s festival are still to be announced, alongside a programme of exhibitions, installations and workshops spanning the three days.

Weekend passes and day tickets are now available from the Sage Gateshead website.
