Last year Montreal art rockers Braids released their debut album Deep in the Iris, but the band have already announced the release of a new EP, Companion, on 20th May via Arbutus Records. The announcement was accompanied by a very personal essay from singer Raphaelle Standell-Preston, ‘Reclamation Through A Microphone,’ which explores how she dealt with sexual abuse through the art of songwriting as well as presenting a push for a change in perceptions towards the issue.
The video for the EP’s title track, directed by Benjamin Loeb, was revealed last week. The clip marries the sweeping, atmospheric track with long takes and lingering shots that has echoes of Ingmar Bergman. Watch the video for ‘Companion’ below.
