Having released his acclaimed album Grapefruit at the beginning of the year, genre-hopping, off-kilter singer-songwriter Kiran Leonard has been busy touring the country with his challenging but creative songs. Last week he shared a brand new track, ‘Coyoacan,’ a song about “Trotsky and his wife, at home in Mexico City, lamenting infighting on the left, in spite of a beautiful world rampant with tyrants.” Little more than a few days later, he has shared some more “new” music.
Leonard was in session for Low Four at Manchester’s historic Granada Studios, backed by a full band. There, he launched into a cover of ‘His Actions Speak Louder Than Words,’ a 1964 track by American girl group The Tammys. In this version, Leonard predictably takes the classic 60’s pop sound of the original and morphs it in his own image, creating something unique and characteristically surprising. Watch below.
